Fluke is offering a money saving Fluke 87V/i410 Combo Kit which combines a Fluke 87V Digital Multimeter (DMM) with a Fluke i410 Current Clamp in a soft carry case. Saving 29% over buying the items separately, the kit offers a CAT IV 600V safety-rated, true-rms DMM with unmatched high performance, accuracy and diagnostic functions especially for adjustable-speed motor drives and other electrically noisy equipment, together with a CAT III 600V clamp meter for readings up to 400A AC or DC.The Fluke 87V DMM has the measurement functions, troubleshooting features, resolution and accuracy to solve many problems associated with motor drives, and plant automation, power distribution and electro-mechanical equipment. It is engineered to withstand voltage spikes of 8kV and to help protect users against the hazards of arc flash. It includes a plug-in Fluke 80BK temperature probe, which can be used to easily check whether overheating is involved in a system breakdown. The Fluke i410 Current Clamp can be used with the 87V to measure AC/DC current in conductors up to 30mm in diameter.

The imperative in industry to cut energy costs and reduce green house gases is good news for suppliers of high efficiency motors. However, the projected efficiency gains from using EFF1 or 2 type machines will not be achieved if motor system and supply problems that existed before they were installed are not resolved. One of the most common of these is low power factor.
The new belt tension tester from Econobelt uses sound waves instead of force deflection to accurately measure tension. The portable, lightweight and easy-to-use meter produces repeatable results for any operator. It can be used in almost any environment and produce fast results, calculated in seconds. The unit, identified as the 507C runs on four AAA batteries.
For high speed and high torque applications the new KHK high precision, ground spiral bevel gears from R. A. Rodriguez are an excellent choice. These strong gears have high load ratings and run at speed with minimal noise and vibration.
Deritend is one of the few UK companies qualified to repair, certify, install and commission electric motors for use in ATEX zoned environments. While traditional ATEX industries such as petrochemical processing facilities are used to conformity, Deritend is warning that motors without correct certification are likely to be used in the recently defined ATEX zone 20 to 22 dust conditions. Companies need to use suppliers and repairers that correctly certify machines if they are to avoid liability should something go wrong.
With advancements in digital electronics and reduced component costs in recent years, monitoring instruments for use in condition-based maintenance programs have become more cost-effective and dependable. Machinery does not need to be taken out of service as many tests are done online, and in many cases very little expertise is required for testing and data interpretation. This enables the user to make well-informed decisions for planning maintenance and repairs, which ultimately leads to increased productivity.
A large proportion of gearboxes in the UK food and drink industry are helical worm units, with average efficiencies of around 75%. Retro-installing Flender helical bevel geared motors, with their typical efficiencies of 96%, provides efficiency improvements of up to 28%, according to Siemens Automation & Drives.
At EDMR we are able to repair all of the following types of motors. Since being established in 1988 our focus has been to be the leading independent repairer of specialist motors as well as standard AC induction motors. Each motor type has a dedicated workshop facility with the requisite hardware, software and test rigs.
