IGE Consulting Uses Ion Science TigerLT To Provide Comprehensive Risk Assessments Of On-Site Contamination

Well-proven, handheld gas detection instrument monitors potentially harmful volatile organic compounds in soils

Geo-environmental consultancy, IGE Consulting, is using a TigerLT handheld photoionisation detector (PID) from Ion Science – leading global manufacturer of high-performance gas detection instrumentation for environmental or occupational health applications – to provide comprehensive risk assessments of on-site contamination. Supplied by UK-based distributor, Shawcity, the instrument was chosen for its flexible lamp design options that target different ranges and types of gases, and is monitoring potentially dangerous volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in soils which may cause harm to human health or compromise safety.

Hazards 30 process safety conference

IChemE’s (Institution of Chemical Engineers) annual Hazards conference takes place in Manchester, UK on 18–20 May 2020. This is an ideal event for anyone who is active in process safety and risk management for chemical process facilities or other facilities dealing with hazardous materials.

Hazards 30 is an international, industry-focused conference, the largest annual event of its kind in Europe. Hundreds of process safety practitioners from around the globe are expected to attend, in order to share practical experiences, learn from each other and network with peers and industry experts.

Air conditioning evaporator units for use in Zone 1

Zone 1 air conditioning units are not only used to create a comfortable climate but mostly for temperature control of storage rooms for volatile substances and the use in battery rooms.

The demand for these air conditioning units is gradually increasing and the number of practically applicable systems is scarce. With the introduction of the China Export marking, systems from the Far East are often mistrusted and the industry is looking for reliable partners.

Telehandler hazards – tackling blind spots in mobile plant

Telehandlers are powerful machines that offer invaluable service to industries across the world, from construction and agriculture to logistics, mines and quarries. Yet these vehicles can pose a deadly hazard to workers. Emily Hardy, from vehicle safety experts Brigade Electronics UK, outlines the dangers and explains how technology can help protect against accident and injury.

Improving workplace health and safety with wearable technology

There have been many arguments made about how the use of robots and Artificial Intelligence (AI) could replace the role of workers across numerous industries. However, the reality is that full automation is not a pragmatic approach and will not be a realistic goal for years to come, despite impressive advancements in technology.

Instead, we must consider how technology can augment the human worker’s role and also improve the safety of workforce environments. Despite the importance of warehouse efficiency, there needs to be additional emphasis on health and safety concerns in warehouses, and the continued issue of labour shortages. Implementing AI and wearable technology, businesses can move towards improving both productivity and accuracy while enhancing worker safety.

Aquila address the environmental issues of industrial gloves

Following the removal of one-time PVC packaging from their supply chain, Aquila brand and their parent company Taste International are pleased to announce a program of evaluation and planning to deal with the recycling and energy issues around manufacture and use of industrial gloves.

Already, Aquila gloves minimise these issues by offering longer lifetimes than competitors - by virtue of their quality and cut glove weave technology which enables some 14 washes without loss of protection. To simplify this, Taste International are studying the possibility of low-energy bulk laundering for large quantities on a collect basis.
