Every day industrial workers transfer potentially hazardous chemicals, such as solvents, acetones, lubricants, cleansers, and acids, from large drums into smaller containers, or into machinery. Traditionally, such potentially flammable or combustible liquids have been tipped and poured. Today such spill-prone, VOC emitting methods are no longer considered acceptable, safe, or compliant – not when a fire or explosion can result.
Evonik is a global market leader in specialty chemicals. The company’s Oxeno site in Antwerp, Belgium is an onshore refinery that processes different C4 fractions. These raw materials are brought in either through pipelines or ships and processed into a final product. The site works with hydrocarbons – organic compounds made up of only hydrogen and carbon. Chemicals are split and combined in reactors. In distillation columns, the difference in chemicals’ boiling points are used to separate them. These chemicals are fed through pipelines into the distillation columns and heated.
Valmet will supply automation to a gas clean-up system at Viridor’s Dunbar Landfill site in East Lothian, Scotland, UK. The first-of-its-kind system allows the successful capture of CO2 and transforms landfill gas into transport fuels. The clean-up system will be supplied by the Dutch company CarbonOrO.
The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the first quarter 2020. The automation delivery will take place in July 2020, and the clean-up system will be commissioned in fall 2020.
Businesses with operations in potentially explosive atmospheres may be overlooking service requirements that are essential for keeping people safe, warns Pyroban.
“At the moment, many companies with a need for explosion protected lift trucks are choosing to extend the contracts for their ATEX forklifts or rent short-term hire units,” says Justine Wren, Sales and Marketing Director for Pyroban. “They may not realise this comes with safety implications.”
Cutting chain is a job that many tools, technicians and even businesses struggle to do quickly and safely. A new and improved way of cutting chain is now available that comes with many benefits, including improved safety and productivity.
There’s a reason why chain is used almost everywhere. Chain’s durability, high breaking force, and capacity to carry a working load makes it the preferred option in a wide variety of applications. Where chain really shines is within the crane and hoist market—you’ll see it used in material handling, chain blocks, and chain hoists.
Make no mistake, edge working is something that should be avoided if at all possible. In any work at height application, the priority should be focused on mitigating the risk of operatives reaching and/or falling from the edge of a building or structure. But if it is absolutely necessary and unavoidable, then it’s vital to be well-prepared and have the highest levels of protection in place. That’s why MSA Safety, global manufacturer and distributor of industry-leading safety products, has created its V-EDGE™ range - a comprehensive portfolio of products designed to keep those who have to work on the edge, safe.
The contracts, which cover a range of Hart Doors’ commercial doors, are welcomed by the company’s managing director as “very welcome and a boost for the hard-working team”.
